Santa Cruz

This year’s ride was Santa Cruz as a tribute to Ed Dee (Big-Wig of Corba www.corbamtmb.com) having selected the Conejo Valley (commonly referred to as God’s Country) as his new home.  Actually, having previously resided in Santa Cruz, we elected Ed to provide us with an awesome ride plan, here is our ride coordinator doing his thing:

Our beach bungalow was awsome!

06/24 Thursday: UCSC / Wilder Ranch / Henry Cowell area. Trails: Star Wars, Sick and Twisted, Lock ’em up, and Dead Camper .  Mostly single-track, whipping through dense redwood forests. Technical ability – medium to high.

06/25 Friday: Palo Alto – Alpine Rd. to Skyline to Russian Ridge, to Eagle Ranch to Windy Hill .  Roughly 16 miles, 2500ft of elevation. Long gradual asphalt, fireroad, single-track mix climb. 360 views of San Francisco and Monterey Bay. One of the only places you can see all 5 Bay Area bridges AND the Pacific shoreline on a clear day. Long singletrack descent through grasslands, ancient Oak and Redwood forests.

06/26 Saturday: Soquel Demonstration Forrest – Saw Pit, Braille, and Tractor   Many variations / loops; Loop 1 will be roughly 16 miles with 2500 ft of elevation, loop 2 will add another 7 miles, and 1200 ft of elevation, and for those willing to go for more the third loop will add another 7 miles and 1200 ft of elevation. That’s a total of 30 miles and just under 5,000 total elevation. Roughly 80% single-track.

06/27 Sunday: Gilroy / Henry Coe State Park – North Gate Entrance .  22 mile loop with 3,200 ft of elevation. There are some very steep sections. Virgin grasslands, dense oak and pine forests. Henry Coe is California’s largest State Park with over 90,000 acres of virgin geography. Herds of wild boar, wild turkeys and a mountain lion sightings are common.

Dennis, jamming the log (I just made that up).

Out to celebrate the rides.
